Yes, a good glimpse inside the mind of the as-yet-unnamed
General (or whatever his/her rank would be) to reveal his view on the world,
and why he would be too proud to call in for backup and holy crap they're
making a live-action dragon ball movie?

Yes, and it looks terrible.
Anyway, I figure the general would be your average glory
seeking type, doing anything for power and fame.

Yep, the military is like that, and people will fight pretty
hard for a piece of ribbon.

And then, at the end, he loses his selfishness (for a very
selfish reason, he wants to be remembered as a martyr) as he warns them not to
send backup, that it's too dangerous.
