Correspondence 2/26/12 21:52 - 22:19

We discuss the relative obscurity of the Korean romantic comedy I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK, and the (hopefully less obscure) Korean animated film Leafie, a Hen into the Wild.

Eric Perazzo

Out of all the Korean films, you'd expect this one to be well-known. But no, it's... none of them.

9:53pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Well, there's that animated one that's getting a pretty big international re-release.

9:53pm

Eric Perazzo

You mean the live action remake of Akira, set in San Francisco?

I think that's a thing...

9:54pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

It is, unfortunately, but I meant "Leafie, a Hen into the Wild".

9:55pm

Eric Perazzo

Is that like Ivy the Kiwi? (?)

9:56pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

I don't think so?

9:58pm

Eric Perazzo

Well, looking at the image search results- Aww. Well, it's got kind of almost exactly the same background, which is how I pictured it, but the animation style is way different.

9:59pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

I hear really good things about it, but have yet to see it myself.

9:59pm

Eric Perazzo

The more I look at it, the more I really really wouldn't mind seeing it too much.

10:00pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

I need to get to watching it some day as well.

10:03pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Oh wow, I see what you mean.

10:03pm

Eric Perazzo

Poor Ivy?, though.

10:04pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yeah.

10:05pm

Eric Perazzo

Haha, oh man, Akira...

10:05pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

It sounds so awful, but I admit I haven't looked into its development much.

10:06pm

Eric Perazzo

Mm, just the idea of it.

It's great that Hollywood still finds time to pull crap like that.

10:07pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yeah. They seem pretty terrified to do anything more daring than remakes, sequels, and re-tooling franchises lately, so it's exciting to see them do just that, in a way that seems riskier than just making an original product.

10:08pm

Eric Perazzo

The internet allows terrific word-of-mouth, so they're more concerned with quality now more than ever before.

But sometimes...

10:09pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yeah, I'll kind of agree with you there.

10:09pm

Eric Perazzo

But better sequels!

Fast Five was the best in the franchise.

10:10pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

I wouldn't know.

10:10pm

Eric Perazzo

Well, it's honestly not saying very much, but still...

It's fun, at least.

10:11pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Which is good. Seems a lot of people aren't interested in fun anymore.

10:12pm

Eric Perazzo

It's a racing heist film. It'd kind of have to be.

10:13pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

That does indeed make it sound pretty sweet. Then again, a lot of sports films became very serious and dramatic lately.

10:14pm

Eric Perazzo

Huh, I suppose so. No more "bend It Like Beckham"s, eh?

mmm, capitalization way off there.

10:15pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yeah, it's all inspirational tear-jerking "based on a true story" stuff now.

10:16pm

Eric Perazzo

Not so much tear-jerking as... Well, there was Rudy.

But it's more... serious, as of late.

10:18pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yeah. Not to say that some of those aren't good, though.

10:18pm

Eric Perazzo

Happy Oscar day.

10:19pm

[deadname] Anderson Taylor

Yep. Oh well.
